Chemotherapy
In the field of there are three main scientific modalities to fight cancer, among them there’s one which is the newest and it’s called Medical Oncology and it is in charge of treating cancer by administering drugs that destroy cancerous cells. This treatment is known as CHEMOTHERAPY.
As in radiotherapy there are several directions as for a patient to receive this treatment, whether it is neoadjuvant, adjuvant and concomitant with radiotherapy or only as a palliative treatment.

Chemotherapy acts modifying partially or totally the reproductive mechanism of cells preventing or causing cellular death, unfortunately this effect does not only happen to cancerous cells, but all cells in the body due to side effects caused by the drug; this affects different systems of the body.

There are several ways to administer chemotherapy from the easiest one that consists on the intake of oral pills, to very complex ones like intra-arterial or intrathecal (along with the substance that flows through the brain and spinal cord). For this reason, chemotherapy can be administered in an ambulatory modality or sometimes it is necessary to hospitalize the patient for a few hours.
