Oncologic Surgery
Surgical treatment is with no doubt the most ancient option of treatment to cure cancer. The goal is to totally eradicate the tumor through a resection. Unfortunately, this can only be performed when the illness is in its early stages, therefore it is necessary to consider other options of treatment like chemotherapy and radiotherapy. Nowadays, in the current practice of Oncology it is imperative to manage each one of the patients in a multidisciplinary profile.

When a patient is diagnosed with cancer or is even suspicious of suffering it, it is imperative he/she is seen by an Oncologist, because this specialist is who really knows the necessary procedures to seriously and accurately diagnose and treat cancer..

Surgeries are usually practiced after a very detailed analysis of each case, in which the patient’s general condition is considered but above all if it is really possible to totally eradicate the cancerous lesion. It is actually impossible to eradicate only a portion of it, therefore when the situation doesn´t allow a complete annihilation of the whole cancerous mass, then other options of treatment must be reconsidered before going on chemotherapy or radiotherapy.

This is an example of a skin cancer where the extension of resection is designed.
